July 1, 2010 Email from Mike Baxter of Jumbo!
Dear Betty and the Hollywood A Go Go Crew;
My name is Mike Baxter and I was referred to your site by Neil Olson,
my old friend and drummer from Jumbo 1969-1971. Neil has some pictures
and info on your web site, page "Faces 2".
Recently we
have been able to locate all the members of our old band JUMBO.
We are all alive and well, and of course scattered around the country. But
through the miracle of the Internet, we have reconnected and created a web site
to commemorate our time together. www.jumbo70.com
We
were actively playing around So.Cal, from the south beaches and Topanga to San
Francisco from 1969-1971 and you might have some visitors that remember.
We
recorded our one and only Album with Lou Adlers Ode 70 records/A & M records
in 1970, sadly, it was never released.
But... you
and your visitors can now hear and share our music.
We
would love to invite you all to check out our new web site and enjoy the
music.
Re:
Jumbo and my earlier group St. John
Green.
Thank
you for your time
Sincerely;
Mike
Baxter
and

Betty, I'm sure you realize by now, that your site means so much to so
many, for so many different reasons. For me, it is restoring my history,
at least partially to me. My ex-wife burned every picture I ever took.
Oh, I managed to get a few replaced from friends and family. But I feel
as though my memories were stolen.
Your site will be a very often used bookmark. Thank you so much for all
you do. Take care Betty and Be Blessed. Evan

Promoting other web sites and having so many links on your top page is
taking people away from your site. Promote your own pages and locations
like Google, Blogs, Facebook, Myspace, etc.!
Don't give up and stay active because people are still here and watching
and reading. You have to toot your own horn, so to speak! :)

February 8, 2009 Email from Rick Huskey
Betty,
I love your site!
Not sure if you can help me. I am looking for a band, most likely unsigned, called Seagull, that was featured in an expose on TV covering the Sunset Strip circa 1978. The band had a video that was played on the expose, had a tall thin blond Singer and 2 Native American Indians on Guitar and Bass. I figured if the had a Video, before MTV, they surely had an LP or at least a 45. Please let me know if you can help.
Thank you,
Rick Huskey
Also today, Ringo gets his star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame at 7:00p.m.

as he performed yeterday with "The Who" at Superbowl Sunday!

Re:Whisky a Go Go documentary
I found your site through recommendation and following lots of links. I was
researching go-go dancers and suddenly, there I was on your site. I was still
there a few hours later! It's wonderful what you've done because it's all about
the people and how you guys shaped not only music history but social history.
I've been amazed at much isn't officially recorded but then there's sites like
yours which are invaluable. It's living history as far as I'm concerned, which
will continue to influence and inspire and touch all of us, thanks to you.
I've had the privilege over the last year and a bit of researching and
talking to many, many people involved in the Whisky a Go Go. Thank goodness
most of the people kept photos and memorabilia and shared them with us
because there was very little at the Whisky - a real shame when you discover
the fire destroyed a lot of the original archive and the rest was lost
over the years.
If you or anyone contributing to your website would like to participate,
I'd love to hear from you. We're especially looking for memorabilia, photos and
memories - as much as we can include!
Once again, this a fantastic website and great to see.

September 13, 2009 ~ Email from Michael Rummans.
Hi Betty, Thanks for everything. I wanted to tell you about some of the
things I found on you site that were personal to me-thing you may not know
about. From oldest to more recent: First I read the posts about the East
Side Kidz-I remember them well. Sad to read about the Dowd bros. Do you
know what happened?
I used to open for them in my first band @ Stratford On Sunset. Their
mgr ATT was the club owner. I think they ended up opening for the Yellow
Payges @ the Hullabaloo a few yrs later. Anyway, my first band was called
The Sloths-we played @ Pandora's Box(I was there for the riots), Stratford
on Sunset and the Sea Witch(I saw The Doors there before they were signed).
Also, I noticed that Danny Hortter posted on your site-I'll try to get
in touch w/him-thx. Lastly, I read the details of Mark Anthony's passing,
so sad(I was recently @ the Grand Canyon-nice to know his ashes are there,
r.i.p.). Anyway, I'm grateful for the info. Feel free to post anything
I've said.
M. Rummans
Regarding The Dowd Brothers. Here is the info I have. Mike was shot and
killed at his house on Carlous Drive in the Hollywood Hills. Dave lost
control of his car and drove off of a cliff! Sad, sad news!

Hi Ballin'jack fans:
Am
writing to let those of you who dont already know, that we lost Luther Rabb a
couple years ago, from complications from his injury, and paralysis.
I was
good friends with Luther, and we shared fond memories of the Ballin'jack days,
who, by the way, were my first concert, back in Apr. 1970, opening for Jethro
Tull, in San Bernardino, CA.
I met Danny Glatman a few years ago, who is with
Ballin'jack management, (danglatman@aol.com), and also became friends with
Ronnie Hammon, (drums), and Jim Coile, (sax), and these guys could really scare
a headliner off the stage, and yes, they were that good1!!!
I saw Ballin'jack
over 20 times, and we will certainly miss, Luther, but he have his music, and
the memories.
Wanted to pass this along to all of you.
Luther is interred
at Hollywood Forever, if you are ever in town.
Sincerely,
BJ's biggest
fan,
Johanna
Thanks, Betty!!!

Email about Jeff Rolling
Hi Betty,
My name is Steve Koontz. I used to play in a band with Jeff in the mid
'70's. I just accidentally saw a message about Jeff's passing @ hollywoodagogo.com.
I have been out of touch w/Jeff since the early '80's and never could find
him even though I searched the net many times. I'm sorry to hear the day
I find a link it's bad news.
As you know you get very close to people on the road (for good or bad)
and never really lose that connection.
His Reply:
I played in a band called Shatterstar based in Chicago with Jeff, Roy
Jones, Bob Marlette and Rudy Sarzo.
I'm sorry to say I have lost all the memorabilia I had from that time due
to an unfortunate turn of events.
I wish I still had some of those things to share now with Jeff's family and
close friends.
I will always remember Jeff for his gentle, supportive personality and the
soulful british blues style of playing he loved so much.
Please post my messages if you wish and I'm asking anyone who knew Jeff to
e-mail me with information as to what happened to him.
With Thanks,

Good
morning Betty,
Many thanks for passing on contact info to a long lost friend.
I met Steve when he used to manage a Guitar Center store in San Diego in the
late 70's..He became a very good
friend and used to help out our band quite a bit back then. It was Steve (Blood) who
introduced me to Leon Wilkerson, the bass player from Skynard. We became friends and when ever he was in town, Leon
would give me a call and we would get togther for talk and mischief .
Thanks again or having the site that helped Steve (Blood) find me..,,,its
too much..I hadn't spoken to Steve in over 33 years...He's now living and
working in Thailand....
It's a small world..thanks again!

I am trying to locate the Gazzarri Dancers who appeared on the HOLLYWOOD
A GO GO TV show in the mid-60's with the purpose of finding out whatever
happened to them and giving them an opportunity to tell their own stories
of their dancing days on a new website devoted to them. Of the several
weekly music shows from this era the Gazzarri ladies were by far the best
and most entertaining go go dancers. They remain in the spotlight thanks
to YouTube and there is an audience out there that still has an interest
in them. So if you are a former Gazzarri or know one please contact me,

March 23, 2008 Betty,
Do you remember a band that used to play at Pandora's called
"Us"?
They were a house band for awhile. They were there starting in
'65.
Some of the members were Vaughn Sanderson, Jack Oldham, and Tinker. My
friends and I would leach money on the strip to get in to pay for the 2 drink
minimum. I don't know how we were drinking because we were only 15. Anyway
I've always wondered what happened to them. By the way love all of your
photos. It was nice to see Mario from the Whiskey. We went there alot to see
the Doors, Cream, the Hollies the one time they were there, and our favorite,
"Love". Did you go to the Sea Witch or the 5th Estate, or The Brave New World.
How about the Experience....that was fun, too. We also would head out to
Canters. My parents lived 8 blocks away so my best friend and I would stuff our
pajamas in our beds and put hair falls on our pillows and sneak out. What fun
we all had. We survived and are better for it. So many memories.
Thanks
again for a chance to talk about it all.

It's good to hear that Mike Port and Mike Stewart are doing well. When I was sixteen Mike Port was my good friend . He used to pick me up from High School in his GTO. I had such a crush on him. We met at Huffs on the strip. I was also originally from Baltimore, MD. I would go and see him play at the Brave New World. I'm glad he's alright. Mike Stewart was in my band for awhile in the early 70's. We worked at the Lobster House in Marina Del Rey. Joe was also a sweetheart. Where is he? I didn't know Randy very well. Anyway, this site is great. Thanks, Teri

Jeff Rollings was one sweet human being and always had a certain fragility
to him. I had the honour of playing at his wedding with Brian Robertson
and a host of other great musicians, including him. He also spent a lot
of time at my home in LA and also in Britain. He wrote some very beautiful
songs. He is greatly missed by me and his great talent is surely a huge
loss to us all. I am only too glad that I am able to say that I had the
very great privilege of knowing him and I offer my most profound condolences
to all those who are also affected by his untimely and most unwelcome passing.

Hello, I used to be a roadie for a band named Wolfgang. This would be
1973 and beyond (there was another Wolfgang in the late 60's I believe).
The band (Wolfgang) moved to LA in early 1973. WE were all from the Phoenix
area but for some strange reason left Phoenix for Colorado Springs (instead
of going to LA). Stayed in CO for 6 months. Did an opening gig for Ballin'
Jack (in CO) and there management convinced us to move to LA. That's it
in a nutshell. The band always had a "revolving door" when it
came to drummers. Fred Darling was one of the best! He was also in Churchill
Downs and Boonsfarm.
Fred was the drummer of the later day Wolfgang. He was an amazing "time-keeper".
Do you know what he doing nowadays?

An update from Mandy Collins about Mark Anthony formerly of The Hollywood
Stars.
My uncle died
in 2002 I believe. I didn't get the chance to attend his funeral because I was in college
in Reno,
NV and it was held in Nashville,
TN. I’ll have to confirm with my sister Nicole…she was able
to go.
This is what
happened from what everyone has said…
Mark had been
living in Nashville
for many years prior and was a regular performer on Painter’s Alley (a famous
bar area of Nashville).
He had turned to country music and had formed a band he called "Max
America." He wrote the songs, played guitar and sang lead just as
he always had. He was quite popular because after his death there was a benefit memorial
concert held in his honor.
Apparently he was to perform on Friday the 13th
which was a bad omen for him. He was highly superstitious. He was singing on stage and
fell. When he couldn’t stand back up they called an ambulance and
the paramedics arrived. Mark
fell unconscious on the way there and fell into a coma which they could not
revive him. He had suffered a brain aneurysm.
Mark had made it clear on previous occasions that he wished
to be cremated and have his ashes scattered in the Grand
Canyon. He wrote in his journal that it was the only place he felt at peace.
My father carried out his wishes (Mark’s brother Ken) on the journey back
to California.
He always knew he was my favorite uncle though and I hope he remembered that
until the end.
I hope this
helps and let me know if anyone else has any questions or if I can tell you
anything else.
Mandy Collins

out of the blue somebody contacts me and says he wants me to do the Whisky
show to help raise dough for Arthur's medical bills.
I asked him if he wanted us to
do any Love tunes and he said Bummer in the Summer. I'm like okay but you have
to do the solo. We don't usually do covers but hey I'm glad we did.

Dear Betty,
In late 1973, the first person I met in Hollywood was Kim
Fowley, and he immediately invited me to meet The Hollywood Stars. I hung around
with all of them for several years (through all of their personnel changes) and
was especially good friends with Terry Rae's girlfriend at the time, Connie
Parente. I also knew Ruben's girlfriend, Pam, and a groupie named Liz (Brenner,
I think) who, I believe, eventually married Ron Blair of Tom Petty and the
Heartbreakers. I dated Mark Anthony (Warner) in early 1975, but we broke up over
Mother's Day weekend of that same year...long, long story.... Anyway, Mark had
been in a band with my step-cousin, Marc Piscitelli, when they were both
attending high school in the Cucamonga/Upland area during the 60s. The whole
thing was strange, because we discovered all of this quite by accident when my
mom met him and found out he was from Cucamonga, prompting her to ask if he knew
a musician named Marc Piscitelli. Kim Fowley told me in 2004 that Mark had
passed away several years earlier, and it saddened me to hear that. I truly hope
he was at peace when he died.
Sincerely,
Karen Danell

Now I just bookmarked this site, so I will be back to read and see
everything here, you can count on it. I'm preoccupied with producing my youtube
channel right now, the whole site is dedicated to one of Our nights at
Gazzarri's and we rocked perty hard, even if it wasn't quite standing room only,
all the seats were taken... crap I didn't intro myself.....( I gotta stop
thinking out loud )
I'm John Berry, BASS Player of HAZZARD and I gotta believe you might be
interested in copying that Link into your site. or that player-imbedder thingy
they say you can just copy and paiste anywhere and it plays.
I don't have the whole show posted yet, and I'm working every night until
it's all there and well produced. Eventually, the whole gig will be playlisted
in the exact order of the show
order of the show.
I hope to sell it dvd form cuz I sure didn't make any money as a Musician.
I figure if people (old farts like us) wanna re-live a night at Gazzarri's on
the strip, well let me help you out brother...HAZZARD Played all the clubs on
the strip too.
Now I'm Gonna Let My Youtube Channel speak for it's self...Please Note the

I've been watching
videos on youtube.com such as The Turtles "It Ain't Me, Babe" and the
Knickerbockers "Lies" and the both showcase some smoking hot
dancers.
Who were they and
what happened to them?
I was born in 1964
and feel a great attraction to the music, styles and dance steps of the
time.
Thank you for your
attention to this matter.
Sincerely,
John

| Johnny Winter's overdue
tour of the UK |
Newcastle-upon-Tyne was host to Johnny Winter's overdue
tour of the UK. No longer that wild young man of yesterday, and yet the guy stll
has the chops to enthrall an audience. Johnny is a frail guy these days, in fact
he appears a man 15 years older than he actally is, but when he plays guitar he
can knock 30 years off. A note for fans, he is signing one of item per fan via
being passed into his tour van with no dedications allowed; no flash photography
is permitted due to Johnny's sight difficulties either. At the Carling Academy
there were no backstage passes, though I was honoured in being the only one
allowed to meet him within his tour van. It's OK I told him to tak care, and
that all his UK fans wish him all the very best. Catch him while he is over I
strongly recommend you do.

April 6, 2007,
Email from Rob Schwarz. Mark Anthony was formerly from The Hollywood Stars.
Hi there, I was just reminiscing and did a google on Mark Anthony and found your site with the pics.....and the bad news that Mark passed. I knew Mark when he lived in Ontario, CA and was still Mark Warner. My brother & I joined a band of his called The Hybrids, which was my first real band. All I did was play tamborine and sing backups to Mark. I believe that this was in 1966 and i was all of 12 years old, but I really remember what a hero he was to me for that short time. I remember stupid things like how he brushed his teeth with a wash cloth and how he really liked doing Magic. Anyway, I saw him again in 69 or 70 and enjoyed seeing him..He was just a really good guy (even if he did only pay me 50 cents for the gig at the Montclair Roller rink. :O) Thanks for letting me go back...and thanks for the pics. Nice website. Best regards,

Hi Betty,
When I was younger I was in a surf band called the Blazers and I have pictures when we backed up....the O J's, Bobby Day , Kathy Young, Chris Montez,
Terry Stafford,The Rivingtons, Jan and Dean and played at the same skating Rink as the Beach Boys. If you can use these pictures, let me know . If not, that's cool.
I'm still composing music and sent alot of them to Don Adey. I build retail
stores and travel nation wide, but still find time to record on the road
with my computer two keyboards two guitars and at times I bring my lovely
wife Debra G. and my 12 year old daughter Mckayla on the road . We have
great times seeing the United States. You're doing a great job on your
web page.
All the best to you, your friends and family.
