March 11, 2015 Jimmy Greenspoon member of Three Dog Night and The Eastside Kids and Sounds of The Seventh Son has lost his battle with Cancer. RIP dear friend! January 15, 2015 Kim Fowley Music Producer, Writer and more has passed away at age 75! He wed Kara Wright in 2014! He will be missed! January 10, 2015 Email from Larry Dunlap Hi Betty, Just fussing around with the old Stark Naked and the Car Thieves site and came across an old post in the forum board there. Decided to check in at your site and was happy to see you're maintaining it. Just wanted to say hurray. I've been reading a lot of books from various people in our era in preparation for publishing my own memoir from '65 to '71. While Naked didn't play on the strip as often as many of the bands, and played more in Las Vegas or cities outside of Hollywood, we did play there several times. The first few times at the Hullabaloo afterhours, later at Gazarri's just before playing at Caesars Palace (who saw that coming), and then several weeks at the Red Velvet while we recorded for the first of several times at Producer's Workshop on Sunset. However, our management company was 9220 Sunset and we were always around and about when the band was in town. My book(s), Things We Lost in the Night, a memoir of love and music, (Book 1: Night People, and Book 2: Enchanted) are about my years as a singer and player, and leader of Stark Naked and the Car Thieves. I'm about to begin final editing with my last editor and expect the first book to be out early next year, second book in the fall of next year. If you're interested, you can see more about the book at http://larryjdunlap.com/book/. When it comes out, maybe you'd like to receive one of the advanced reading copies. I'd be happy to send you one, just let me know. After these years I spent 9 more years in Hollywood during the 70s, as an artist manager, publisher, and eventually a studio owner, City Recorders, on the Paramount lot at Sunset and Gower. So I am a veteran of the street and era, though a bit more undercover I suppose. I think you would enjoy my story about coming to the San Francisco area in 65 from Indianapolis with the remnants of my vocal group, working our way through the dive bars of the east bay into the topless clubs in North Beach before coming to southern California, and then onto Las Vegas, dealing with the draft and the women who changed my life. Anyway, just making sure our old band site stays linked to yours.
I think the era is making a comeback, don't you? Larry J. Dunlap I only remember going to Bido Litos once. Never went to Fred
C. Dobbs which I heard was great. Went to a gazillion concerts, including
every Beatle Concert in LA (and one in Chicago where I met Mal Evans, Road
manager for the Beatles. Hung out a couple times at The Door's office on
Santa Monica @ La Cienega. I went to Pandora's Box a couple times and moved
up to Haight Ashbury just prior and during the "Summer of Love".
I went to the Whisky often in the mid 60's as well as a few times since
then. I think Love was a regular at Bido Litos & then grew in popularity
afterwards. One day in the 70's or early 80's I somehow found myself sitting
in the same booth at Canters Deli with both Brian McLean of Love &
Rodney Bingenheimer. I seemed to run into Rodney everywhere I went though
I never really knew him. I even ran into him at the Bobs Big Boy in Toluca
Lake about 10 years ago.
I will keep in touch with you via your great website. Feel free to add me to your website and eMail list. Take GOOD care Betty, and thanks for the "invite"... Peace, Love, and Joy to you and your loved ones, Denny June 11, 2014 The Hollywood Stars will be coming out with a new video soon! As soon as I hear, I will post it. Here is a link to their Facebook page called Fans of The Hollywood Stars! Also, The Yellow Payges are playing around Arizona and also LA. Here is a link to Dan Hortter's Facebook page! November 20, 2013 There are still some 65-66 Palace Guard CD's available on Gear Fab Records! November 8, 2013 Email from Derek Sanderson Hey there, I'm Vaughn Sanderson's son, Derek. My father passed away in an accident several years ago and he never talked much about his band days, but I know a few details: he met my mother, Linda Weeks, playing at Pandora's Box. They married in 1966 and I was born in June of 1967. The band broke up sometime around that period; Mom says they weren't able to make a living playing (maybe Pandora's Box closing had something to do with it?). Dad had a long career with the U.S. Forest Service as a fire fighter in California, and retired as a station chief. Stan West has his own Blues band and plays occasionally in the Glendora area; you can read his bio and check his schedule at http://www.stanwest.com/. He's really good, and I recommend a visit if you have the chance. Ronnie Pelletier is now a DJ for a Jazz music station in San Francisco. Jack Oldham went on to play bass for the Surfaris in 1966-1967. I don't recognize the name "Tinker", but perhaps that was Stan or Ronnie. When I visited Stan in 2011 he gave me a CD with some "Us"
studio tracks, such as my father singing "Johnny B. Goode", as
well as a recording of a live session at the Teenbeat club in Las Vegas.
If anyone who used to hang out at Pandora's Box when "Us" was
the house band wants a listen, they can email me (derek.sanderson at the
domain gmail.com). October 13, 2013 The Hollywood Stars 1974 album has been released and available on Amazon.com and lightintheattic.net October 12, 2013 Another producer from NUVO tv contacted me about using my personal photo's of Edward James Olmos for their show "1 on 1" with Mario Lopez. Here is the link, but there is no video at this time. You may check Youtube soon to see if they run it. July 23, 2013 Email from NBC Producer Edward James Olmos (Zoot Suit, Stand and Deliver) was going to be on NBC Today on Monday July 29th and wanted to use the photos of him on my web site. I missed the email by a week, but sent one and apologized for not checking my mail sooner. :-( June 9, 2013 Message from Ruben de Fuentes that The Hollywood Stars band's 1974 Columbia album will be reissued soon and available on a Swiss label! The Hollywood Stars are available on these pages: F4, F7, F8, F10, F13, and F14. January 16, 2013 Email from Billy Doherty and his band The Lost Souls Betty, I had no idea that you and Linda knew tony leon .. Im just amazed at this coincidence .. Kent lived about a block away from Tony and John Burrows lived off of Atlantic in Monterey Park. It was john's garage where they got their start .. Mason was from So. San Gabriel and Skip lived in El Monte .. Unfortunately Tony is not in these pics .. He had been drafted and was in vietnam but Kent and John are .. Its also unfortunate that all 3 from Monterey Park are now gone .. John
4 yrs. ago , Kent 3 yrs. ago and Tony 2 yrs ago .. Tony and John are both
buried at the riverside Veteran's cemetary in Riverside and this story
makes me even happier that last week I was there putting some hollyberries
on both their grave sites ...
The story and pics look great .. Im
sending everyone to this incredible site .. Thank you so much for this help in
preserving the memory of our band and everything that hollywood music was
capable of back then ...
I don’t think there is any limit to what hollywoodagogo is capable of presenting
.. when I send the address to people they are completely amazed .. keep
up the great work .. Billy

The year I decided to get a grip, a haircut, change my social habits and get a real job. It all worked out eventually. Don’t know ya from anywhere but I’m a Hollywood refugee and very much enjoy your Face book posts... the information and videos still give we with the soft hearts a warm feeling about the good ole days. I’m a Hollywood High grad and UCLA alum. I lived all over Laurel Cny. including two years in the “cellar apartment” at Houdini's near the corner of Laurel Cyn. and Lookout Mt. We had a posse of character's that slid down Laurel Canyon almost every night to Sunset then migrated to the Whisky, The Galaxy, Gazzarri's, The Hullabaloo, Pandora's Box, The Hamburger Hamlet, Roxy, Rainbow. Troubadour and more. My roommates were gorgeous “nudie cuties” (porn actresses??) so we always got to the bands. Fun yes. Weird nights, egad. Lawrence J.

February 5, 2011 Email from Caroline Morrow McElroy Hello Betty, my friend Andrea said to contact you to find people that hung out at the Hullaballo like I did and to find out if Rick Moser from the Palace Guard was still alive and if he is what is he up to? I was a dancer across the street at the Teen Fairs and most people knew me as Mona. I met a lot of bands at the fairs and at local clubs...always wondering what happened to them. Photo's of Caroline on Faces 5. carolinemcelroy@hotmail.com I did find Rick Moser and here is an email from him. Hi Betty, I'm a retired Orange County Sheriff's Sgt. I retired Nov '08 after 25 years. I work part time at Guitar Center Lake Forest and play in a classic rock "cover band" usually once a week. I did country from 90 to 97. I will play as long as my fingers hold out. I have 2 girls and 3 boys. (two different wives) the 3 boys are still here at home and 4 grandkids. My boys: 2 in collage and 1 Long Beach Grad. Talk to you soon.... Rick He is sending photo's soon! ram434@aol.com December 11, 2010 Email from Marlie H. I absolutely love your website! It brings back so
many memories. My sister and I lived a block away from the Whisky on Larrabee in
the 60's so we were around all the time.
One of the bands we really loved at the Whisky was the Daily Flash, and I don't see them mentioned on your website. I found this site (with photos). http://www.thedailyflash.com/index.html Evidently they've reformed with one of the original members. Do you remember a club called The Trip? We saw the Lovin' Spoonful, The Byrds, Frank Zappa and many others there. I think it was only open for a short time, but it was a great place. Keep up the good work on your website. I keep going back every once in a while to get my 60's fix. LOL. Thanks, Marlie October 26, 2010 Email from Jo-Lee Smith Hello All from Hollywood a Go Go,
What a FANTASTIC SITE :)
My name is JoJo I'm an old flower power child from
the old days lol. I lived through the Sea Witch era, Love In's
( Frank Zappa day's) Hullabaloo, Gazzarri's, and ended up being a waitress at the Whisky A Go Go from 1967 till 1971 . Most of the pic's of people on your site I remember. You posted a pic of Linda Strayer, Cara Spence, and Sherry Routa dancing on the Gazzarri's stage. Sherry has been my best friend sense I was 14 LOl. I just e-mailed her and she had a look and was gobsmacked, it's the only picture of her as a teenager! SO many thanks for the posting. Sherry and I are trying to locate any one out there
who has a pic of a girl called Jackie Rainwater. Jackie hung out with us all at
Gazzarri's, but she passed away just before her 18th birthday. To this day she
is so sadly missed and left a big void in our lives.

it on my News 2 page in the morning!
Thank you so much and stop back

Peace and Luv, Betty
Allison....Thank you so much, Betty. I
found your site as a result of attending a Three Dog Night concert here in San
Diego last Sunday, which led to Googling the band members to see what they're up
to these days, and thus found all the photos from "back in the day" that Paula
Servitte Negron shared with you. What a treasure to view her and Chuck Negron's
personal photos, as well as all the others from the rest of the bands, many of
whom I never knew existed. It's so neat that your website is a clearinghouse for
all of those musicians to share memories and find one another again. Keep up the
great work! -- Allyson
September 3, 2010 Email from Fan! Hello,

Hi Ballin'jack fans:
Am writing to let those of you who dont already know, that we lost Luther Rabb a couple years ago, from complications from his injury, and paralysis. I was good friends with Luther, and we shared fond memories of the Ballin'jack days, who, by the way, were my first concert, back in Apr. 1970, opening for Jethro Tull, in San Bernardino, CA. I met Danny Glatman a few years ago, who is with Ballin'jack management, (danglatman@aol.com), and also became friends with Ronnie Hammon, (drums), and Jim Coile, (sax), and these guys could really scare a headliner off the stage, and yes, they were that good1!!! I saw Ballin'jack over 20 times, and we will certainly miss, Luther, but he have his music, and the memories. Wanted to pass this along to all of you. Luther is interred at Hollywood Forever, if you are ever in town. Sincerely, BJ's biggest fan, Johanna Thanks, Betty!!! |

It's good to hear that Mike Port and Mike Stewart are doing well. When I was sixteen Mike Port was my good friend . He used to pick me up from High School in his GTO. I had such a crush on him. We met at Huffs on the strip. I was also originally from Baltimore, MD. I would go and see him play at the Brave New World. I'm glad he's alright. Mike Stewart was in my band for awhile in the early 70's. We worked at the Lobster House in Marina Del Rey. Joe was also a sweetheart. Where is he? I didn't know Randy very well. Anyway, this site is great. Thanks, Teri
March 10, 2008 Email from Michael Corby of "The Babys" about the death of Jeff Rollings in approx. 2002. He is on Faces and Faces 7 of my site.
Jeff Rollings was one sweet human being and always had a certain fragility to him. I had the honour of playing at his wedding with Brian Robertson and a host of other great musicians, including him. He also spent a lot of time at my home in LA and also in Britain. He wrote some very beautiful songs. He is greatly missed by me and his great talent is surely a huge loss to us all. I am only too glad that I am able to say that I had the very great privilege of knowing him and I offer my most profound condolences to all those who are also affected by his untimely and most unwelcome passing.
If anyone has anymore information about Jeff, please email me.

Hello, I used to be a roadie for a band named Wolfgang. This would be 1973 and beyond (there was another Wolfgang in the late 60's I believe).
The band (Wolfgang) moved to LA in early 1973. WE were all from the Phoenix area but for some strange reason left Phoenix for Colorado Springs (instead of going to LA). Stayed in CO for 6 months. Did an opening gig for Ballin' Jack (in CO) and there management convinced us to move to LA. That's it in a nutshell. The band always had a "revolving door" when it came to drummers. Fred Darling was one of the best! He was also in Churchill Downs and Boonsfarm.
Fred was the drummer of the later day Wolfgang. He was an amazing "time-keeper". Do you know what he doing nowadays?
Sincerely, Tom Valenzuela (Tamale)

Hi Betty. Thanks for the add. The Whisky was like a school of music for me and my friends (we lived in Thousand Oaks) in the late 60's through the mid 70's. I saw and photographed tons of bands like Steely Dan, ZZ Top, Gentle Giant, PFM, Snuffy Walden, Rory Gallagher, Robin Trower, Parliment Funk, Slade, etc. I loved the place and the whole scene back then. Can't wait to fully view your site here. I'm now living in Texas (since 75) and playing in several bands.

An update from Mandy Collins about Mark
Anthony formerly of The Hollywood Stars.
My uncle died in 2002 I believe. I didn't get the chance to attend his funeral because I was in college in Reno, NV and it was held in Nashville, TN. I’ll have to confirm with my sister Nicole…she was able to go.
This is what happened from what everyone has said…
Mark had been living in Nashville for many years prior and was a regular
performer on Painter’s Alley (a famous bar area of Nashville). He had turned to country
music and had formed a band he called "Max America." He wrote the
songs, played guitar and sang lead just as he always had. He was
quite popular because after his death there was a benefit memorial concert held
in his honor.
Apparently he was to perform on
Friday the 13th which was a bad omen for him.
He was highly
superstitious. He was singing on stage and fell.
When he couldn’t stand back up they called an ambulance and the
paramedics arrived. Mark fell unconscious on the way
there and fell into a coma which they could not revive him. He had
suffered a brain aneurysm.
Mark had made it clear on previous
occassions that he wished to be cremated and have his ashes scattered in the
Grand Canyon. He wrote in his journal that it was the
only place he felt at peace. My father carried out his wishes (Mark’s brother
Ken) on the journey back to California.
He always knew he was my favorite uncle though and I hope he remembered that until the end.
I hope this helps and let me know if anyone else has any
questions or if I can tell you anything else.

Hi there, nice to meet you. I hadn't spoken to Johnny Echols in years and out of the blue somebody contacts me and says he wants me to do the Whisky show to help raise dough for Arthur's medical bills. I asked him if he wanted us to do any Love tunes and he said Bummer in the Summer. I'm like okay but you have to do the solo. We don't usually do covers but hey I'm glad we did.

Dear Betty,
In late 1973, the first person I met in Hollywood was Kim Fowley, and he immediately invited me to meet The Hollywood Stars. I hung around with all of them for several years (through all of their personnel changes) and was especially good friends with Terry Rae's girlfriend at the time, Connie Parente. I also knew Ruben's girlfriend, Pam, and a groupie named Liz (Brenner, I think) who, I believe, eventually married Ron Blair of Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers. I dated Mark Anthony (Warner) in early 1975, but we broke up over Mother's Day weekend of that same year...long, long story.... Anyway, Mark had been in a band with my step-cousin, Marc Piscitelli, when they were both attending high school in the Cucamonga/Upland area during the 60s. The whole thing was strange, because we discovered all of this quite by accident when my mom met him and found out he was from Cucamonga, prompting her to ask if he knew a musician named Marc Piscitelli. Kim Fowley told me in 2004 that Mark had passed away several years earlier, and it saddened me to hear that. I truly hope he was at peace when he died.
Sincerely,

I'm preoccupied with producing my youtube channel right now, the whole site is dedicated to one of Our nights at Gazzarri's and we rocked perty hard, even if it wasn't quite standing room only, all the seats were taken... crap I didn't intro myself.....( I gotta stop thinking out loud )I'm John Berry, BASS Player of HAZZARD and I gotta believe you might be interested in copying that Link into your site. or that player-imbedder thingy they say you can just copy and paiste anywhere and it plays.I don't have the whole show posted yet, and I'm working every night until it's all there and well produced. Eventually, the whole gig will be playlisted in the exact order of the showorder of the show.I hope to sell it dvd form cuz I sure didn't make any money as a Musician. I figure if people (old farts like us) wanna re-live a night at Gazzarri's on the strip, well let me help you out brother...HAZZARD Played all the clubs on the strip too.Now I'm Gonna Let My Youtube Channel speak for it's self...Please Note the pittyfull amounts of hits I've gotten so far...h3k

I've been watching videos on youtube.com such as The Turtles "It Ain't Me, Babe" and the Knickerbockers "Lies" and the both showcase some smoking hot dancers.Who were they and what happened to them?I was born in 1964 and feel a great attraction to the music, styles and dance steps of the time.Thank you for your attention to this matter.Sincerely,John Petrich

April 6, 2007,
Email from Rob Schwarz. Mark Anthony was formerly from The Hollywood Stars.
Hi there, I was just reminiscing and did a google on Mark Anthony and found your site with the pics.....and the bad news that Mark passed. I knew Mark when he lived in Ontario, CA and was still Mark Warner. My brother & I joined a band of his called The Hybrids, which was my first real band. All I did was play tamborine and sing backups to Mark. I believe that this was in 1966 and i was all of 12 years old, but I really remember what a hero he was to me for that short time. I remember stupid things like how he brushed his teeth with a wash cloth and how he really liked doing Magic. Anyway, I saw him again in 69 or 70 and enjoyed seeing him..He was just a really good guy (even if he did only pay me 50 cents for the gig at the Montclair Roller rink. :O) Thanks for letting me go back...and thanks for the pics. Nice website. Best regards,

Hi Betty,
When I was younger I was in a surf band called the Blazers and I have pictures when we backed up....the O J's, Bobby Day , Kathy Young, Chris Montez,
Terry Stafford,The Rivingtons, Jan and Dean and played at the same skating Rink as the Beach Boys. If you can use these pictures, let me know . If not, that's cool.
I'm still composing music and sent alot of them to Don Adey. I build retail stores and travel nation wide, but still find time to record on the road with my computer two keyboards two guitars and at times I bring my lovely wife Debra G. and my 12 year old daughter Mckayla on the road . We have great times seeing the United States. You're doing a great job on your web page.
All the best to you, your friends and family.
